01 ·Context
Where the project came from
La Cafetera serves lunches and additional products to individual and corporate customers. Its operation needed one place to register daily sales, control cash and review reports by company, product or period.
The previous system was a procedural PHP application, with duplicated code and business rules, exposed credentials and plain-text passwords. I came in to redesign the experience and rebuild its technical foundation without losing the staff’s day-to-day workflow.
02 ·Challenge
What had to be solved
The challenge was to modernize an operational tool without making it slower or harder for the person at the register. The new platform had to preserve the speed of a sale, organize the business data and eliminate the legacy security risks.
Constraint
Replace a legacy PHP system with obsolete dependencies, and business rules and critical data scattered through the code.
Constraint
Give cashiers, administrators and management views and permissions matched to their tasks without exposing sensitive operations.
Constraint
Keep sales and cash-closing records traceable, with exportable reports for daily operations.
03 ·Solution
What I built, and why that way
I built a Laravel, React and Inertia monolith where the point of sale, administration and reporting share one database. Business rules now live in one place, while staff use a fast, clear interface tailored to their role.
- Point of sale with cash opening and closing, payment methods, thermal receipts and discrepancy control.
- Customer, company, product and cash-register management from an admin panel.
- Granular roles and permissions that separate operations, read-only access and system administration.
- Filterable Excel exports for sales, companies, products and cash closings.
04 ·Result
What changed afterwards
The new foundation replaces the legacy system’s risks and manual processes with a maintainable platform, modern authentication, manageable data and a cash workflow ready for day-to-day operations.
